Description
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will plan, design and implement Asset Management (AM) strategies for the three Water Utility lines of service to achieve our technical and customer levels of service. You will also support long and short-term strategic AM strategies to achieve long-term health and sustainability of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure of the City of Calgary. Primary duties include: 

  • Analyze available data pertaining to the Water Utility assets to determine optimized plan for future operations, growth, renewal and replacement, and innovation. 
  • Develop and monitor annual capital AM programs for replacement/rehabilitation of Utility assets. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of long-range infrastructure plans, servicing studies and operational plans, including further development of risk, levels of service and strategic plans. 
  • Monitor trends and develop solutions for the Water Utility servicing considering the integrated system of treatment plants, lift/pump stations, pipes, ponds and outfalls. 
  • Prototype methodologies and tools to support lifecycle analysis and costing, risk analysis, and statistical and data mining techniques to support strategic and operational AM needs. 
  • Lead and guide cross-functional team members to utilize AM strategies and best practices to improve processes and management of assets in operation. 
  • Build and foster networks and relationships with internal technical experts, operations staff, other business units, and key partners across Water Utility.
  • Establish priorities within individual projects within program priorities set by Senior Planning Engineers and Utility Leaders. 
  • Manage and deliver projects to support the planning and analysis functions of the Water Utility. 
  • Assist in budget planning, preparation of business cases and other project management duties. 
  • Prepare in-house studies, executive reports, presentations, training materials and other pertinent written documents on AM principles, practices and strategies related to the Water Utility infrastructures.
Requirements

Qualifications 

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Click here for more details.
  • A strong background and keen interest in water, wastewater and stormwater utilities. 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required. 
  • Previous experience in municipal engineering, data analytics, asset and risk management, and project management. Working knowledge of treatment plants and/ or linear systems design, operations and maintenance, and strong analytical skills would be considered an asset. 
  • Ability to work with complex and integrated information systems such as Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS) and knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), SAP Business Objects/ Web Intelligence, advanced Excel, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Oracle Work and Asset Management (WAM) or IBM Maximo will be considered an asset.
