- Prepare to enter confined spaces by reviewing blueprints, engineering plans and section books,confirming required services and setting up job site and equipment (e.g. traffic set-up, tripod, harness,winch and SCBA) for employees entering the confined space.
- Control hazards and entering spaces once made safe to proceed.
- Operate in a team environment which includes training to work on a Confined Entry Crew. Work as thetending worker, or as an entrant into confined spaces (e.g. manholes and pipes), test, monitor andcontrol gas and oxygen levels (e.g. venting). Perform onsite inspections, and tight spaces. Access tosites will be by vehicle or walking with observation of hazards including recording and controlling conditions.
- Install and repair water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructures such as skimming weirs in stormwater ducts, repairing manholes (e.g. installing inverts, benching steps and down drops and removingobstructions) and installing flow metering and sampling equipment.
- Work throughout the City of Calgary, with an expectation to collaborate with various levels ofleadership, be the eyes and hands of requests, and complete work orders relating to the work of WaterServices including its partners - including but not limited to:
- Installing, maintain and monitor flow metering and sampling equipment to obtain industrialsampling for lab.
- Assisting groups that do not maintain their own Confined Entry Crews.
- Complete documentation such as Confined Entry Permits, daily journals and records documenting gasreadings.
- Enhance observational skills and experience through in-house training, including hands-on learning andclassroom instruction. Leverage your existing experience while gaining new knowledge through real-time, on-the-job opportunities tailored to various situations.
- Adapt to rotating shift work, with some after hour jobs as required. Operate in locations from farmlandto plants, to high traffic-controlled roadways.
Qualifications
- A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED or CAEC [Canadian Adult Education Certificate]) withat least 4 years water/wastewater utility experience.
- A valid Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with Q endorsement.
- Applicants must successfully complete Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) training.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to use software and desktop or remote devices.
- Excellent interpersonal and adaptability skills are required to succeed in this position.
Working Conditions: Work in confined spaces and traffic; subject to gases, raw sewage, leach, etc.

- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
