Description
The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Lifeguard/Instructor. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Aquatics, Aquatic Coordinator, or Aquatic Supervisor, the incumbent performs lifeguard and aquatic instructional program procedures as per facility policy. Responsible for the supervision and control of activities, safety standards, and cleanliness of aquatic facilities. Exercises mature judgment in carrying out instructional skills and general lifeguarding duties.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed Grade 10 and have the following qualifications:

  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification
  • C.P.R. “C” Certification
  • National Lifeguard Certification – Pool Option
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Experience teaching aquafit classes is considered an asset.
Salary & Benefits

This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week, and subject to Article 1(d) - Probationary Period as set out in the Union Collective Agreement.  The hourly wage is $24.57, increasing to $25.86 after 60 working days (Jan 2025 Rates). Hours of work include evenings and weekend shifts. Set hours as determined which may be rotated through the full-time team.
