Our Engineering Department – Public Works Division – Street Operations team is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Assistant Operations Worker. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work in a team environment and takes pride in maintaining safe and well-functioning streets for the community.
The Assistant Operations Worker performs a wide range of manual duties related to road maintenance, construction, and signage/markings. Key responsibilities include assisting with road layout and excavation preparation, operating specialized equipment such as asphalt rollers, hot boxes, and paint machines, placing and compacting asphalt, performing pothole repairs, road markings, and roadside maintenance, assisting with concrete placement, and supporting storm response activities such as snow and ice control. The role also involves graffiti removal, infrastructure cleaning, and traffic control duties.
Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent, six months of experience in civil works related to road construction, maintenance or signage/markings, a Traffic Control Person Certificate, Occupational First Aid Level 1, a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brakes Endorsement, and the annual renewal of a driver’s abstract. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The position requires sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform the work and involves outdoor duties in all weather conditions.
The successful candidates will be working Monday to Friday, 4:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., or 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., depending on operational need.
