Markham, Ontario is one of the most vibrant, culturally diverse, and fast-growing cities in the Greater Toronto Region. With a population of over 353,000, Markham is Canada’s High-Tech Capital – home to more than 1,500 technology companies and a total of 10,400 businesses, including national and international headquarters for IBM, Aviva, Allstate, GE Energy, Honda and many others. Celebrating over 220 years of history, Markham offers a unique blend of heritage charm, progressive urban planning, and a dynamic, highly educated workforce. This thriving city is defined by its entrepreneurial spirit, pro-business environment, and commitment to cultural excellence.
The Destination Markham Corporation (DMC) is an arm’s length municipal corporation launched in April 2020 as the destination management organization for the City of Markham. As the City’s lead agency for tourism and destination marketing, DMC is dedicated to growing Markham’s visitor economy and positioning it as a premier destination within the Greater Toronto Region. With a distinct identity and brand, Destination Markham attracts tourists, sports and festival attendees, business travelers, and meeting and conference delegates through strategic marketing, partnerships, and programming.
In this dual role, the President of DMC and Director of Economic Development, Culture, and Entrepreneurship will serve as a visionary and influential leader, helping to shape the future of Markham’s economic landscape. In collaboration with the DMC Board of Directors, the City’s senior leadership, and municipal staff, the President and Director will drive Markham’s economic development and investment attraction initiatives, identifying and promoting new business opportunities. Responsible for overseeing the City’s cultural programming, the President and Director will lead the development of a long-term strategic vision that enhances cultural awareness, fosters participation, and strengthens community engagement. This role will ensure the delivery of high-quality, inclusive programming across the City’s cultural venues – the Flato Markham Theatre, the Varley Art Gallery and the Markham Museum – and through many City-hosted events. Through innovative strategies and collaborative partnerships, the President and Director will drive business growth, support local industries, and elevate Markham’s reputation as a vibrant destination for tourism, culture, and commerce.

You bring demonstrated experience in building, leading and inspiring diverse teams, along with a strong ability to develop and implement city-wide economic strategies, investment attraction initiatives, and cross-sector partnerships. Skilled in financial stewardship, you have successfully developed and managed annual budgets, consistently achieving fiscal targets while adapting to changing priorities. With strong stakeholder engagement skills, you excel at forging collaborative relationships with business leaders, government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and tourism partners. Combining visionary leadership with hands-on execution, you are passionate about positioning Markham as a premier destination to visit, live, work, and invest.
