We have an opportunity available within our Parks Department for a Regular Part-Time Ecology Centre Programmer to help support the effective operation and maintain our high service levels at the Ecology Centre. This is specialized nature interpretation and educational work involving developing and implementing educational and special events programs at the Ecology Centre. The successful incumbent develops, leads, promotes and evaluates educational and special events programs; and cooperates with other staff in researching and writing display materials. The position also trains, directs and oversees the work of part-time staff and volunteers. The work is performed under general supervision and considerable independence and judgement are exercised in carrying out day-to-day functions. Unusual matters and policy issues are discussed with a superior who reviews work performance for effectiveness of services provided.
The successful candidate will possess:
·Considerable knowledge of the methods, objectives and practices applicable to developing, leading, evaluating and promoting Ecology Centre programs and activities.
·Considerable knowledge of natural history and ecological principles of the pacific northwest.
- Sound knowledge of Centre operations and the rules, regulations and policies governing the work performed.
- Ability to develop, lead, promote, and evaluate educational programs and activities, community outreach, birthday parties.
- Ability to direct, assign and review work of part-time staff and volunteers, provide training, and participate in recruitment and selection as required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to prepare a variety of materials related to the work such as texts and press releases.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, schools, and other groups.
- Ability to research materials related to the development of exhibits, displays and programs.
- Ability to perform a variety of miscellaneous clerical and janitorial tasks in support of Centre operations and perform regular cashier duties as needed.
Qualifications
A Diploma from a community college in a program related to ecology, plus sound related experience preferred. Level 1 First Aid Certification and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence are required.
Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $33.25 to $39.14 per hour (2024 rates).
Hours of Work: Based on a 17.5 hour workweek (Hours take place over Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday).
