• Learn and execute the processes for maintenance and/or repair of the wastewater system.
• Learn and apply components of public health and safety related to wastewater management.
• Perform assigned inspection, assessment activities and maintenance activities throughout the city on the wastewater system. (This is not a wastewater treatment plant or laboratory-based position.)
• Provide support to a variety of wastewater maintenance crews.
• Learn and apply environmental and OHS legislative requirements related to the wastewater system.
• Learn and operate an array of equipment within the wastewater system.
• Perform confined entry work within the wastewater system as required.
• Learn and perform customer facing service-based work within the wastewater system.
• Other duties as assigned.
• A High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least 2 years of utility experience; OR
• A 1 year technical certificate in Water and Wastewater (i.e. NAIT) and no experience; OR
• A 2 year Water Engineering Technology Diploma (Water and Wastewater option i.e. Okanagan College) and no experience.
• A valid full Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
• Must be able to obtain Level 1 Wastewater Operator Certification within 2 years.
• Previous experience related to the operating section of this position will be given preference.
• Education related to wastewater systems is preferred.
• Preference will be given to applicants with the ability and willingness to use software and desktop or remote devices.
• Interpersonal and adaptability skills are required for success in this position.
$33.81 - $37.48 per hour
38 hour work week
