Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Execution
-
Execute approved marketing plans and support the internal promotional needs.

Develop and implement digital marketing strategies to support communications plans across multiple projects.
-
Brainstorm and develop ideas for creative marketing campaigns that align with departmental and city-wide objectives.
-
Provide creative direction for the design and production of targeted advertising, promotional, and communication materials.
Digital Communications & Social Media
-
Support development and implementation of a coordinated approach for using emerging technologies and platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs).
-
Coordinate digital content across City communication channels for optimal reach and engagement.
-
Develop digital content calendars for internal clients and departments.
-
Update the City’s social media accounts with accurate, timely content.
-
Engage the community by responding to comments, fostering discussion, and growing online audiences.
-
Generate and analyze reports on social media activity and marketing performance.
-
Provide training and coaching to City staff and Council members on social media messaging, digital tools, and best practices.
Internal & Departmental Coordination
-
Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all marketing materials and platforms used by the City.
-
Align departments around a shared communications standard and unified visual identity.
-
Provide internal communications within departments to clarify marketing roles and support staff in achieving communication goals.
-
Maintain inventory of marketing materials and order promotional resources as required.
Public Engagement & Outreach
-
Organize and participate in trade shows, special events, and public relations initiatives.
-
Conduct market research to assess public needs, behaviors, and communication preferences.
-
Support public engagement efforts through surveys, community meetings, and promotional outreach.
-
Provide support during emergency communications or crisis response situations.
Other Duties
-
Provide ongoing social media communications coaching and consultation to Council and City employees.
-
Assume additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
-
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations and/or Marketing
Skills & Competencies:
- Skill in the use of a computer with word processing, desktop publishing (e.g., Photoshop, illustrator and Quark)
- Demonstrated ability in the creative conceptual design of targeted messages for various advertising and communication mediums.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used to measure the effectiveness of communication methods
- Knowledge of media advertising principles and techniques, including conceptual design, creative development, production and scheduling.
- Knowledge of facility operations and construction
- Knowledge of current building technology for architecture, mechanical, electrical and structural disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and implement communication plans, using a variety of promotional vehicles and techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, suppliers, the graphic industry and the media.
- Considerable knowledge of graphics industry principles, including copywriting, layout and design, illustration, visual identity programs, photography, typography, pre-press production and printing, audio-visual, signage and displays.
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
This position has an annual salary range of $64,000 - $71,000, and a comprehensive Benefit and Pension Plan.
