Description
Under the supervision of the Public Works & Parks or the Utility Operations Supervisors and the direction of the Lead Hands,the Vactor/Heavy Equipment Operator helps to make the City of Nelson the number one Municipality in Canada, based onvalue for service by participating as a team member of the Operations Department. The Vactor Operator/HEO does this byensuring our subsurface infrastructure is safely and effectively inspected, maintained, and renewed. This is done by safe andefficient operation of the Vactor Truck while flushing, vacuuming and performing hydro excavation duties.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or GED (General Equivalency Diploma)
- WHMISValid
- Class 3 BC Driver’s License with air endorsement
- Currently holds or is able to demonstrate proficiency as a ‘Level A or 1’certification* on an Excavator, Loaderand Backhoe
- 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment operator OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
*An “A or 1” operator is one who performs skilled work and is able to work in high-stress situations, including high public traffic areas. Works around utilities, both above and below ground. These operators have scored a 91 –100% on their evaluation.
