As the Development Engineer within the Mobility sections of Community Planning, you are responsible for coordinating the transportation/engineering input on matters related to development applications including land use, development permits, subdivisions and outline plans. This position performs transportation related technical analysis across a broad spectrum of development applications and implements Citywide and local-area policies.

In this position, you will work with applicants and the Development Applications Review Team (DART) to expedite solutions, and support transportation engineering review of DART development applications, capital project circulations, and approval process optimization. You will collaborate with departments throughout The City and industry, and build leadership skills. Primary duties include:

  • Represent the Development Engineering Division and transportation/mobility engineering interests at DART meetings.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with applicants and City specialist groups to find innovative solutions to transportation engineering issues (functional, geometric design, operations, construction, phasing and access to transportation infrastructure) arising through the development approvals process.
  • Balance the needs of the City with the development industry to ensure transportation infrastructure is constructed in a safe, timely and effective manner.
  • Participate on task forces and committees representing the transportation engineering aspects of development.
  • Establish, interpret, and explain policies and procedures to other business units, industry, developers, and the public.
  • Review and negotiate legal agreements arising from subdivision, development permits, and Land Use Bylaw amendment proposals.
  • Represent the Development Engineering Mobility sections at various forums including Calgary Planning Commission, public meetings, Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, and Council.
  • Provide technical advice and direction to technical staff and customers to meet project objectives, specifications and standards.
Requirements
  • A degree in Civil Engineering.
  • You must have at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering standards and design guidelines is required.
  • Experience working with municipal development applications, either in a municipal or consulting engineering environment is an asset. 
  • Advanced communication, judgement, and problem-solving skills and a demonstrated ability to make independent decisions.
  • High attention to detail with a strong team and customer focus are essential.
Salary & Benefits

$93,651 - $141,404 per annum
