The Engineering & Asset Management Department is accepting applications for two Engineering Technologists. These are permanent, full-time, out-of-scope positions, under the supervision of the Director of Asset Management.   

 

Engineering Technologists are responsible for project management in the fields of municipal engineering and property development.  This position is involved in the project delivery of new and rehabilitation capital works projects.  Engineering Technologists require knowledge in many disciplines, such as traffic control, environmental regulations, asphalt, concrete, deep utilities, shallow utilities, drainage patterns, etc.   

 

Engineering Technologists coordinate the development and implementation of the City’s asset management strategy using asset management principles and practices. Work is performed in a highly technical environment and requires the knowledge and skill for both office and field practices. The position requires analyzing procedures to make the best decision for the City. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Complete preliminary design, cost estimates, procurement, contract awards, construction administration and related Council reporting.  
  • Supervise construction activities, monitoring progress, quality, and safety to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and meet required standards. Address issues, resolve conflicts, and ensure timely completion.  
  • Coordinate, analyze, document, track and report on a wide variety of assets including condition assessments, risk assessments, life cycle costing and level of service using accepted asset management principles and practices. 
  • Coordinate with staff in other City Departments to develop and implement asset management plans. 
  • Use several computer applications and digital tools such as GIS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and GPS survey equipment.  
Requirements

Required Qualifications: 

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from a program recognized by Technology Professionals Saskatchewan, or equivalent.  A combination of education and experience may be considered. 
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's license. 
  • Completion of Respect Group Training and Criminal Record Check will be required upon hire. 

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • The following certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute (PMI), Institute of Asset Management (IAM), or Risk Management Professional (RMP). 
  • Experience in Geographic Information System (GIS) software. 
  • Experience in capital asset management principles and best practices. 

 

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong computer application skills, specifically with Microsoft Office 365, Oracle Fusion Financials, AutoCAD, GIS software, and other related software. 
  • Time management skills, prioritizing workload while dealing with multiple demands to meet long-and short-term deadlines. 
  • Excellent analytical, communication, financial management, project management, problem-solving, and organizational skills. 
  • Strategic thinker, able to see the bigger picture and act appropriately to produce measurable results. 
  • Ability to employ various surveying techniques and operate survey equipment.  
  • Ability to work outdoors, as needed. 
Salary & Benefits

The City of Swift Current offers a competitive compensation package including a full employee benefit package.  Salary Range: $79,170 to $96,322 annually. Compensation will be dependent on qualifications and experience.
