As the OHS Prevention Manager, you will report to the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, and lead the OHS Prevention Section in the areas of physical and psychological health and safety for all Saanich employees. You will manage, guide and coach your team who support managers, supervisors and employees in their respective areas. You will provide leadership across the organization on occupational health and safety best practices, strategies, policies, guidelines and priorities. You will act as a change agent, helping to improve the District of Saanich’s processes, culture and systems while supporting the ongoing implementation, coordination, review, updating and auditing of the District’s Safety Management System.
You will rely on your comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and practices to provide evidence-based opinions, guidance and recommendations, both proactively and reactively, to effectively manage risk, preventing illness and injuries, and fulfill the District’s legal, moral and ethical obligations, while ensuring such opinions and recommendations are aligned with the organization’s safety culture. Your excellent verbal and written communication skills will help you effectively engage with both technical and non-technical audiences and develop partnerships with stakeholders, vendors and consultants.
As a qualified candidate, you will have a University degree in a relevant discipline; CRSP or CSP designation; five to seven years progressive experience (within the past 10 years) in the practice of occupational health and safety, including:
- two years experience in a management/supervisory position. Supervising employees in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- writing, revising and reviewing policies, programs, procedures and reports, and
- independently leading projects and developing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, vendors and consultants.
Also needed is a valid Class 5 driver’s license and personal vehicle, available for use as and when required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is an Exempt position with an annual salary range of $108,790 - $127,980, an excellent benefits package and a generous pension plan.
