Description
Do you have a passion for working outdoors?  The District of Saanich, the largest municipality on Vancouver Island, has a diverse parks system with over 170 parks and natural areas and over 100 kms of trails. The Parks Division is seeking multiple casual Parks Workers to perform a variety of manual tasks in the management and enhancement of park areas in any of the following sections: Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Natural Areas, Construction and Maintenance. The Parks Worker I will perform activities such as general plant health care, tree planting, turf management, irrigation repair, and overall park maintenance. Other tasks related to carpentry and landscape construction include the installation and structural maintenance of playgrounds, buildings, park structures, signs, drainage, trails, and other parks related infrastructure.

Requirements

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; one accredited course related to the work common to the Parks Division from a recognized post-secondary institution; six months recent previous experience in the works of a Parks Division; B.C. Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate; valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector check (PIC-VS). Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

IMPORTANT: Applicants MUST HAVE a B.C. Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate for this position, in either the Landscape category or the Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed category.

The successful candidates will work varying shifts Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Salary & Benefits

These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $32.79 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits.
