Do you have a passion for nature and the outdoors? Saanich’s Parks Division is seeking an experienced Arborist to join our Urban Forestry team! The Arborist performs a wide variety of skilled arboriculture and urban forestry tasks which require skill and ability at the technical level with an emphasis on teamwork, providing work direction to other staff, operating an aerial lift truck, climbing and pruning, removing, rigging, and assessing trees. This includes general plant health care and integrated pest management for a wide variety of native and non-native tree species. The ideal candidate is service oriented, can problem solve, has good judgement, can analyze complex information, and possesses strong communication skills. The Arborist ensures the safety of work crews and the public by enforcing all appropriate Municipal and WorkSafe BC regulations.

Requirements

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; two-year post-secondary diploma in arboriculture or horticulture; two years progressive experience in the field of urban forestry including climbing, pruning, removing, rigging and assessing trees and providing direction to others in the work; ISA Certificate; ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with air endorsement. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m; and must have sufficient health, physical condition, strength, stamina and co-ordination to permit performance of duties.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $40.73 per hour (2024 rate) plus an excellent benefits package. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
