Description
Under the direction of the Manager of Enforcement Services, the Senior Community Peace Officer will be primarily responsible for the enforcement of municipal bylaws and specific provincial statutes. The position will spend approx. 85% of their time on enforcement duties and 15% of their time providing leadership and supervision.

  • Actively participate in patrols and enforce Provincial Statutes and County Bylaws.
  • Provide field training and mentorship for new or junior Community Peace Officers and supervise summer students.
  • Enforce County Bylaws and Provincial Statutes as outlined in the Community Peace Officer Appointment from Alberta Justice and Solicitor General.
  • Develop and deliver public education programs on enforcement activities and initiatives.
  • Coordinate joint operations and traffic enforcement with regional law enforcement partners.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with RCMP and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide support to RCMP and Peace Officers, including assistance with special events and emergencies.
  • Attend court as necessary, ensuring professionalism in evidence handling and court procedures.
  • Assist the Manager of Enforcement Services with periodic reviews of County Bylaws to ensure relevance. maintaining statistical activity reports and necessary files.
  • Act as Manager during absences exceeding five business days, including: overseeing department staff to ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and County Safety Policies, addressing public concerns and complaints regarding enforcement activities and completing required reports, investigating public concerns and complaints if they exceed reporting timelines, providing leadership and supervision to the Foothills County Enforcement Services team, monitoring daily department operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in law enforcement; in lieu of this, extensive law enforcement experience with supervisory experience and a grade 12 diploma may be considered.
  • Must hold, or be eligible for, a Community Peace Officer Level 1 Appointment from Alberta Justice and Solicitor General.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Level One Community Peace Officer or Police Officer in front-line enforcement.
  • Full Class 5 Operators License (no GDL) with no more than allowable demerits.
  • Must have or be able to pass an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.
