Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery of County-led outdoor recreation and rural community-initiatives, including the identification, research, design, delivery and evaluation for each initiative, event and program. Including initiatives such as Graffiti Management Program, Pitch-In, Broadmoor Lake food vendor etc.
- Liaise, guide and support local community leagues/halls, associations, agricultural societies, minor sport groups and non-profit organizations with their delivery of community events and recreation and community initiatives. This includes support for grants, emergency management plans, permits, protocol, logistics. E.g. Josephburg Country Classic, Trail days, Tractor Pull, dog luring, Christmas in the Heartland, Christmas in the Country, charitable fundraisers and races, block parties, etc.
- Determine performance indicators, success measures and administer statistical reports for initiatives, events and programs
- Procure, coordinate and manager contract services for County led initiatives, events, and programs
- Responsible for grant management including identifying available grants, writing and submitting applications
- Help develop and evaluate best practices and emergency preparedness plans that are inclusive of health and safety contingencies and the delivery of services to event attendees, employees, volunteers, contractors and partners
- Work collaboratively with community members, partners and stakeholders to meet specific social, event and programming needs to create efficient and effective service delivery and ensure Strathcona County’s strategic directives are being met
- Provide leadership, strategy development and project management support while facilitating and liaising with community stakeholders/partners.
- Initiate, foster, and build meaningful relationships with both internal and external contacts to enhance both County and community led outdoor recreation and rural initiatives, events, and programs
- Collaborate with operational teams and peer departments to develop, design, deliver and evaluate outdoor recreation and rural initiatives, events, and programs
- Programming and communication across several facilities and spaces
- Support rural residents through a mobile approach that would support service to multiple community leagues, groups, events, and programming
- Anticipate, understand, communicate, diffuse, and resolve inquiries and concerns in a timely and courteous manner. This includes implementing service recovery practices and anticipating/diffusing politically sensitive issues.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum three to five years’ experience in leadership capacity within related work areas (programming, event planning, facilities, community development, policy development and public engagement)
- University Degree in Recreation, Administration, Physical Education, Business or related
- Strong sense of local community groups and agricultural community knowledge would be considered an asset
- Exceptional verbal, listening and written communication skills, sound judgment are critical to respond professionally to sudden services inquiries and necessary to maintain excellent public relations ensuring satisfaction, order and efficiency with initiatives
- Excellent customer service, public relations, interpersonal, relationship building, facilitation and influential leadership skills necessary to deal effectively with individuals, groups, businesses, community groups/association/leagues, non-profit organizations, and all levels of government.
- Flexibility to take on projects that are outside of the specific work area.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize is essential.
- Adaptability to respond to customer and staff operational needs with minimal notice
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Salary Range: $77,131.60 - $96,405.40
