This posting is for multiple, hourly positions located out of Millennium Place, Ardrossan Recreation Complex, and Glen Allan Recreation Complex

As a Fitness Technician I, you will actively monitor Strathcona County Wellness Centres, delivering exceptional customer service to exceed guest expectations. Your primary responsibility in this role is to ensure that every guest feels welcomed, at ease, and supported while exercising in a clean and well-maintained Wellness Centre.

Fitness Technician I’s are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, approximately 2-3 shifts at any of the 3 wellness facilities. Shifts may be any time between the hours of 5:00 a.m. - 10:45 p.m. Fitness Technician I’s will be expected to attend mandatory training sessions monthly.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Actively engaging and greet guests as they come through the wellness centre to create a comfortable environment  
  • Providing and educating guests on all available options, spontaneous use services such as Wellness Centre orientations and collecting guest feedback/suggestions  
  • Monitoring guest activities to ensure they are done in a safe manner, answering their questions, and familiarizing them with Wellness Centre procedures and etiquette  
  • Complete equipment cleaning, equipment safety checks and statistics of wellness spaces 
  • Circulate the Wellness Centre to maintain organization of fitness equipment 
  • Performing first aid and/or CPR when required and make sure all preventable hazards in the wellness centre are taken care of  
  • Assist group fitness with class set ups 
  • Promote community wellness events to encourage healthy active living by supporting wellness service initiatives in Strathcona County facilities  
  • Ability to work daytimes, evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and irregular hours 
Requirements

Qualifications and skills: 

  • High School Diploma required, with at least one year of experience in customer service; experience in a fitness or recreation setting is preferred.
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor of Kinesiology program or NAIT Personal Fitness Trainer program is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR (C), and AED certification required.
  • Knowledge of general fitness equipment and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Word, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to effectively engage with diverse groups of individuals, including guests and staff.
  • Good physical condition to perform active supervision and light housekeeping duties.
  • Capable of visually monitoring large areas with high guest activity.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a large team.  
     

Conditions of Employment  

  • Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check   
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 
Salary & Benefits

Pay Range: $19.95 - $24.97 per hour
