Are you ready to play a key role in delivering an unforgettable experience for over 2,000 athletes, coaches, and technical officials at the 2026 Alberta Summer Games? Join our team as the Sport, Facility, and Operations Coordinator and help bring this exciting event to life in Strathcona County. This position is responsible for working collaboratively to oversee the sport and facility needs as well as for all operational elements supporting the Alberta Summer Games taking place between July 16-19, 2026.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and manage all Strathcona County and partner facility booking contracts through their lifecycle
- Develop and utilize comprehensive layouts for venues and facilities
- Oversee facility set up and tear down, including scheduling and staffing allocation for all elements of field of play
- Procure all necessary sport and venue related equipment and supplies
- Develop a comprehensive equipment storage plan
- Support the volunteer program and build community capacity
- Develop a system for medal presentations at each sport including scheduling, arranging necessary supplies and equipment, storage and protocol support
- Establishing an inventory control system and warehouse tracking for Games supplies, equipment and portable items
- Coordinate distribution of equipment, supplies, and portable facilities required for the Games
- Obtain and arrange for all necessary inspections and permits
- Liaise on communication and security needs within sport facilities and venues
- Manage key operational elements such as utilities and waste management
- Manage the signage program for the 2026 Alberta Summer Games
- Write and present reports as required to the 2026 Alberta Summer Games Society
- Oversee and administer the portfolio budget to ensure timely and effective use of budget dollars to meet event needs
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post secondary degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Business, or related discipline with minimum 1 year of related work experience, or a Post secondary diploma in one of these areas with 3+ years of related work experience in a leadership capacity within operations, event planning, facilities, community development, policy development or public engagement
- Incident Command System Training is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, supervision and leadership skills combined with judgement, discretion and a strong work ethic
- Strong knowledge and understanding of event management
- Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and to influence outcomes
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective time management and decision-making ability
- Ability to build strong and positive relationships with volunteers, and community groups and organizations
- Knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety
- Effective presentation, written and verbal communication skills
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
- This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends as required. Some travel may be required
Salary Range: $74,893.00 - $93,602.60
