Are you passionate about maintaining and enhancing urban green spaces? The City of Medicine Hat is looking for a dedicated and skilled Arboriculture Services Operator to join our Parks and Recreation team. If you have a knack for arboriculture and enjoy working outdoors, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Your key responsibilities

  • Operate an aerial lift truck for tree assessments, pruning, and removals.
  • Perform a variety of tasks related to parks operations and maintenance.
  • Ensure safety procedures and equipment compliance with current standards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Work in a cemetery setting as needed.

What you bring

  • In-depth knowledge of park operations, maintenance principles, and procedures.
  • Expertise in arboriculture, but not limited to pruning, planting, removals, and tree surgery.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining Parks and Recreation equipment.
  • Strong understanding of emergency procedures and a commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • Comfort with working at heights over 15 meters and in confined spaces.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in aerial truck pruning and removal within a large commercial or public sector operation.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record, and clean driving abstract.
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate/CPR certificate, or willingness to obtain.
  • Air Brakes Certification ("Q" endorsement).
  • Completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
