The City of Medicine Hat is looking for a dedicated and skilled Arboriculture Services Operator to join our Parks and Recreation team. Your key responsibilities
- Operate an aerial lift truck for tree assessments, pruning, and removals.
- Perform a variety of tasks related to parks operations and maintenance.
- Ensure safety procedures and equipment compliance with current standards.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Work in a cemetery setting as needed.
What you bring
- In-depth knowledge of park operations, maintenance principles, and procedures.
- Expertise in arboriculture, but not limited to pruning, planting, removals, and tree surgery.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining Parks and Recreation equipment.
- Strong understanding of emergency procedures and a commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Physical capability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
- Comfort with working at heights over 15 meters and in confined spaces.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Certification or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years' experience in aerial truck pruning and removal within a large commercial or public sector operation.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record, and clean driving abstract.
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate/CPR certificate, or willingness to obtain.
- Air Brakes Certification ("Q" endorsement).
- Completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
- Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
