Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

Reporting to the Director of Planning & Development, the Junior GIS/Planning Technician is responsible for supporting the design, management, analysis, and functionality of spatial and relational data related to municipal land, community planning, and civil works. Additionally, they will assist Senior Community Planners in various planning tasks, including community engagement, strategic planning, development facilitation, and compliance review.

Requirements

What is required of this position?

  • Possess a 2-year diploma in Environmental Technology, Public Policy, Geographic Information Systems, or equivalent
  • A Class 5 Driver’s License

Assets include:
Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in computer software programs for office use, including Microsoft Suite, spreadsheets, and statistical analysis programs;
  • Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS and qGIS for analyzing spatial data and creating various maps to support community planning and civil works;
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Online, web mapping tools, CAD software, and online survey tools would be advantageous;
  • Experience in developing, managing, and analyzing relational databases

Contextual Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of territorial legislation, including Nunavut’s land ownership system, The Nunavut Agreement, and Northern issues, is a plus;
  • Ability to research and evaluate government legislation;
  • Competence in data collection and analysis using appropriate tools and methodologies;
  • Capacity to participate effectively in project teams;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The successful candidate would be required to submit an acceptable Criminal Record Check.

Salary & Benefits
