Strathcona County Specialized Transit (Mobility Bus) is a door-to-door, shared ride, accessible public transit service. It complements the fixed-route service and is intended for those persons who, due to a physical and/or cognitive limitation, cannot use fixed-route service. We are seeking caring, customer service-oriented individuals to join our team of Specialized Transit Operators.

This posting is for 2 hourly positions 

This hourly Mobility Bus Operator position will work a variety of shifts that include days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays. Work will include straight shifts and split shifts, any time of the day between the hours of 5:00 am and 12:00 midnight. The successful incumbent must have the flexibility to work a variety of days and hours.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Safely operate Mobility Bus to provide reliable passenger transportation 
  • Successfully perform scheduled manifest by picking up all clients and delivering them to their destinations safely  
  • Ensuring the safety of all passengers including the use of appropriate on-board restraints  
  • Communicate effectively with transit dispatchers  
  • Provide excellent customer service including assisting individuals on and off the bus 
  • Accurately collect cash and ticket fares   
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills 
 

  • Grade 12 or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent qualifications and experience.  
  • Proven ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions in English.  
  • At least 6 months experience working with, providing regular care, or assisting persons with physical and/or cognitive limitations with a proven ability to deal directly and professionally with the public.  
  • Customer care is an essential element of the position of a Mobility Bus Operator and applicants should have experience working with, providing regular care, or assisting persons with physical and/or cognitive limitations.  
  • Mobility Bus Operators must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, which may include prolonged sitting, walking, squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, twisting and gripping in order to safely operate the bus, its controls and provide clients with assistance.   
  • The nature of the Mobility Bus service is that routes and travel patterns are always different, and the job takes the Mobility Bus Operator all over Strathcona County which includes the hamlet of Sherwood Park, a large rural area, and specific areas in the City of Edmonton.   
  • Excellent map reading skills and geographical knowledge of Strathcona County and the City of Edmonton are an asset.   
     

Conditions of Employment 

  • Valid Class 4 Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or licensing equivalent and a Driver’s abstract with fewer than 7 demerits.  
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search is required upon offer.  
  • Selected applicants must pass all assessments and testing.  
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.  
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts and hours.  
Salary & Benefits

Pay Range: $27.69 - $34.60
