Summary:

The Project Construction Supervisor will assist Aquatera Project Managers (PMs) in the supervision of contractors completing capital projects. This role will be based mainly on construction sites in the Grande Prairie area.

The Project Construction Supervisor must have experience and confidence in dealing with contractors. The successful candidate will be the Aquatera representative and first point of contact on-site for contractors. Being the main on-site presence, they must be able to assess all manner of construction activities and make sound judgement calls. This team member is a key role in assuring successful project completion.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will:

  • Be the Aquatera and first point of contact for the contractor on site;
  • Monitor the on-site progress of construction;
  • Review that work is generally proceeding in a good and workmanlike manner and in general accordance with the approved drawings and specifications.
  • Review and provide input on contractor’s request for information and change orders.
  • Provide input to construction requests for information (RFIs), contractor progress draws, etc.;
  • Review of contractor’s monthly progress draw reports, including tracking unit rate quantities;
  • Review and provide input on contractor schedules, construction plans, drawings, etc.;
  • Ensure contractors are following contractual design and construction standards and meeting quality requirements;
  • Review of supporting documentation submitted by the contractor and subcontractors, including but not limited to bypass pumping plans, temporary water servicing, traffic accommodation strategies, etc.;
  • Review contractor permits and permit plans, such as Traffic Barricade Permits;
  • Prepare project status reports for the Aquatera PMs;
  • Understand and interpret the contract documents and ensure contractors and meeting contractual obligations;
  • Give regular progress updates and reports to the Aquatera Project Manager;
  • Working on a pre-feasibility, feasibility, and preliminary engineering studies for potential capital projects with limited oversight from management;
  • Ensure the contractor is providing accurate redlines of construction drawings;
  • Monitor contractor safety adherence to Aquatera and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety standards;
  • Identify and track contractor deficiencies;
  • Assist in communication and planning between the contractors and Aquatera operation and engineering departments;
  • Review of surveys and geotechnical reports;
  • Tracking of contractor overall budget and forecast to complete;
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

The successful candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have:

  • Graduated from a recognized engineering degree program or engineering technology diploma program with five years of construction, project, and/or other relevant experience;
  • Registration with APEGA or ASET would be a plus.
  • Have the ability to read engineering drawings;
  • Be able to familiarize oneself with the technical nature of Aquatera’s operations along with key governing standards and approvals;
  • Have the ability to use judgement to identify the most appropriate solution from several options;
  • Possess the conviction to improve personally/professionally and support continuous improvement in the department and company as a whole;
  • Possess a high Level of personal integrity;
  • Be a self-starter with effective time management skills;
  • Committed to self-driven personal and professional growth;
  • Be able to work with little supervision and must be self-motivated;
  • Have the ability to conduct presentations, including but not limited to technical presentations and project review meetings;
  • Possess strong working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel,
  • Experience with City Works, GPS, AutoCAD and MS Project are all a plus;
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated diplomacy and professionalism;
  • Possess strong technical report writing skills;
  • Have demonstrated organizational and management skills;
  • Have a valid Alberta Driver's License (Class V).

Working Conditions

  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computers and peripherals;
  • Variable hour work week as required by project demands. Assume a minimum of 20 hours per week during the remainder of 2024, winter of 2025, and minimum 30 hours per week during the 2025 construction season (approximately June – October 2025);
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours and on weekends, as necessary to meet project deadlines;
  • May be exposed to hazards associated with the services we provide;
  • Site visits where PPE is required;
  • Long periods of standing may be required during site inspections;
  • Some travel may be required.

As conditions of employment the following will be required:

  • Provision of a valid Canadian Driver’s license, Minimum Class V (Non GDL) that is acceptable to the Employer
  • Provision of a Driver’s Abstract satisfactory to the employer
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment 50 lb. physical fitness test
  • Satisfactory completion of a comprehensive drug and alcohol test
