Position Summary

Reporting to the Design and Production Coordinator, the Graphic Designer creates various print and electronic assets to support corporate programs, services, and events.  This position specializes in graphic design, desktop publishing , motion graphics, video and photo editing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, layout and production of various formats of print and electronic deliverables including posters, reports, guides, print ads, forms, brochures, digital ads, social media posts, web graphics, motion graphics, promotional videos and presentations 
  • Researches industry trends and best practices for layout, design, videography, photography, video editing and animation
  • Ensures consistent application of the City’s Brand Guidelines, and other applicable protocols and policies, for all materials produced
  • Updates and edits drafts on information gathered from the proofing and review process
  • Formats documents from initial concepts into their final form, working with the Design and Production Coordinator to distribute proofs as necessary, and sets up press production and digital deliverable files
  • Creating digital animations and video for use on the web and social media to promote corporate initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Communications and marketing team members and corporate division representatives for content and design ideas
  • Troubleshoots issues in a timely manner and implements long-term solutions through collaboration with the Communications and marketing team
  • Manages and maintains multimedia library and media assets, including consent forms for participants in multimedia projects
  • Creates animated videos that reflect the City’s branding and corporate image according to applicable protocol and policies
  • Enhances the communication impact and media mix of the City’s divisions through multimedia production, applying an understanding of the City’s programs and services, ensuring the representation of the diverse composition of the City’s communities
  • Transports production equipment to various shoot locations and performs set up.
  • Responsible for care, maintenance and safe storage/handling of related equipment
  • Maintains content libraries consisting of information and design assets in the form of photo, video, audio, illustrations, and training materials accessible to internal and external users as required
  • Collaborates with internal clients and stakeholders to help facilitate the creation of multimedia content.
  • Provides strategic counsel to clients for multimedia opportunities.
  • Records and edits motion graphics, animated social posts and/or video and sound projects, including selecting program format for final output, capturing/importing media, organizing raw media, editing footage and sound files, creating and inserting static and motion graphics, titling, adding music/voice-over/sfx, media management and archiving project media.
  • Familiarity with professional cameras, prosumer camcorders (Canon DSLR or similar), various HD and SD formats, preproduction/planning, studio and field production, lighting/grip, scriptwriting, storyboarding and photography.

 

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Graphic Design, Multimedia or related discipline 
  • 4 years experience in a similar role

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient Adobe Creative Suite (print, illustration, video and animation) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated creativity in digital and print mediums
  • Knowledge in the use of video equipment, video editing digital cameras
  • Organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience creating various promotional material using different types of media
  • Knowledge of different typography and layouts for readability and accessibility (knowledge of AODA requirements for print and web)
  • Ability to work with others within and external to the division to collaborate on projects
