Under the general direction of the Manager of Economic Development, the Economic Development Officer (EDO) is responsible for coordinating the administration, implementation and operation of the City’s economic development programs. Through regular direction from the Manager, the incumbent assists with the implementation of policies and programs to ensure the operational objectives of the City are met. The EDO is responsible for coordinating implementation of the City’s Economic Development Strategy. The EDO will have a lead role in activities and initiatives that attract investment and business opportunities in the City and will actively support business retention and expansion activities. The incumbent shall work collaboratively with all departments within the City of Yellowknife to provide support and advice to ensure processes are followed and outstanding customer service is achieved.
This position requires a degree in communications, community planning, business administration, journalism, public relations, or a related field, plus a minimum of three (3) years related experience. Experience should include community engagement within a government or dynamic corporate environment. The incumbent should have strong graphic design, photography and writing skills, as well as strong interpersonal and public relations abilities. A background in business, economics, or event planning would be a strong asset. The ability to establish and maintain cooperative and constructive relationships with individuals at all levels of organizations, members of Council (when requested by the Manager), and representatives of external organizations is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate and lead are a must. An entrepreneurial approach and ability to promote the City's Economic Development projects and initiatives should be evident from prior work experience.
The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive annual salary range of $85,780.84 - $103,445.91 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a defined benefit pension plan, and monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totaling $450.
