This role may be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 2 hours of Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and foster professional and effective relationships with key elected and administrative officials from various levels of government and organizations; represent Strathcona County at relevant conferences, events and meetings
- Provide strategic advice to the Manager of Intergovernmental Affairs, Chief Commissioner and as directed to members of Council
- Coordinate research and reporting of external initiatives, developing strategies on Strathcona County’s response or action
- Develop proactive and innovative strategies, processes and negotiation to support the advancement of the County’s strategic priorities; provide briefings as required
- Mentor and foster strong relationships with Strathcona County staff; build collaborative and communicative relationships with those involved in similar government relations, special projects and municipal organizations/associations
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences, Economics, Sociology or related field, with a minimum of five years’ progressive work experience in strategic policy development and implementation within government, including experience working with elected officials
- Local government certificate is an asset
- Exceptional political acumen grounded in extensive experience working closely with Elected Officials
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to form linkages and leverage cross-political opportunities
- Ability to handle highly confidential information in a discreet manner
- Comprehensive understanding of the municipal government structure and workings, including a strong familiarity with the political and administrative functioning of other orders of government
- Ability to research, analyze and put into context complex regional, provincial and national issues and influence senior administration to understand and identify strategic opportunities or potential consequences that may impact Strathcona County’s operations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Extensive knowledge of the issues affecting the County and its region, as well as the various boards, associations and organizations Strathcona County is a member of
- Strong project management and facilitation skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
Salary Range: $89,653.20 - $112,112.00
