Position Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor Field Services, the Intern will provide survey related assistance to the Capital Infrastructure Programming & PMO section.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Shadow Senior Surveyor and train in a variety of tasks related to surveying.
- Provide basic information and oversee mail deliveries.
- Maintain files, organize documents; photocopy, fax, etc. as needed.
- Assist in preparing information and research materials.
- Run general City related errands.
- Research and gather documentation related to the divisional function.
- Utilize Auto-cad, Land Development/Civil 3D and Bluebeam software to update and add information as necessary to required drawings.
- Creation of Topographic survey for road lines, ditches and tree lines will be an asset.
Education and Experience
- Second or third year Civil Engineering Technologist or Technician student who have finished the Level 2 surveying field exercise by using contemporary tools and techniques. Students must be able to collect digital field data through the proper set-up, initialization and basic operation of instruments such as total stations, theodolites, and electronic field books.
- Data processing using progressive terrain modelling software is an asset.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and the ability to prioritize are a requirement.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and creative team player.
- Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrate the City's corporate values.
- Comfortable working outside (fieldwork).
- Possess your own CSA certified steel toe safety boots for fieldwork.
- Possess a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.
- Provide own transportation to conduct field monitoring activities (mileage compensated).
- You will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance.
