This posting is for up to 3 Performing Arts Instructor I and II positions

We are seeking:

  • 2 Performing Arts Instructors at Festival Place (Instructor I)
  • 1 Performing Arts Instructor at Festival Place (Instructor II)

These positions are seasonal starting early June with an expected end date of August 26, 2024.

The Performing Arts Instructors I and II’s work within a team environment to develop and implement creative, age-appropriate Performing Arts programs for Strathcona County. Instructors provide support to the leaders in the areas of drama, dance, video production, and musical theatre. 

These positions report to the Performing Arts Programmers at Festival Place. The camps you may support in this position are for summer seasonal camps occurring Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Responsibilities 

Instructor I

  • Instruct and provide positive support and supervision within performing arts summer programs  
  • Assist with planning performing arts activities, create lesson plans, and work as a team to provide camp activities  
  • Assist professional performing artists in providing youth (ages 4Y to 18Y) with a clean, safe, and positive learning environment  
  • Provide support to the operation of summer programs such as registration administration, daily attendance records, communication with parents, and accurate recording and monitoring of specific registrants’ information   
  • Provide excellent guest service for program participants and the community 
  • Collaborate and positively interact within a team environment  
  • Provide safe supervision to participants engaged in programs and ensure health and safety regulations are followed   

Instructor II

  • Plan, develop, and deliver activities that incorporate filmmaking into performing arts-themed activities. Other arts areas may be implemented such as dance, drama, musical theatre, circus, and physical theatre skills.
  • Consider skill development and progression, to maximize participant learning, appreciation, and engagement 
  • For children and youth, incorporate the interests of the children and support children’s emotional, artistic, and social development, creativity, and fundamental movement and fine motor skill progression.
  • Prepare materials for each program/camp activity. 
  • Create project samples if needed as a teaching tool
  • Ensure program spaces are clean and safe and that materials and equipment are used under County OHS guidelines.
  • Provide excellent guest service for program participants and community
  • Collaborate and positively interact within a team environment 
  • Manage forms, documents, and communications with class participants at the time of the class
  • Communicate any questions, issues, or concerns to the Recreation Programmer
  • Assist with program documentation, administration, and site preparation
  • Provide safe supervision to participants engaged in performing arts programs and ensure health and safety regulations are followed. 
Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

  • Positive, proven leadership and team-building skills 
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments and demands along with time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to maintain high standards of respect, safety, quality, and cooperation 
  • Minimum Grade 10 completed 
  • Enrolment in post-secondary education for fine arts, education, recreation, and/or other related degrees is an asset 
  • Demonstrated experience working with children   
  • Experience instructing programs in a group setting is highly desired   
  • Experience in the performing arts
  • Experience in filmmaking, using camera equipment, and using editing software would be considered a highly rated asset 
  • Leader in Training program would be considered an asset 

Conditions of Employment

  • Submission of Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check  
  • Current First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification 
  • Ability to lift 20lbs. and supply totes as part of the job duties and stand for extended periods 
Salary & Benefits

Pay Range: $19.37 - $31.84
