The municipal census is a count of all residents living within Strathcona County and collects additional information that is used for planning and delivering municipal services.
The Census Area Supervisors report to the Project Manager, Legislative Projects. These positions provide leadership and direction to a team of census workers while ensuring that census information is collected efficiently and effectively from assigned enumeration areas.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit and train census workers
- Conduct in-person interviews with census worker applicants
- Respond to census related inquiries from the public over the phone and by email
- Assist with testing the technology used for collecting census information
- Assess census worker applicant suitability and make recommendations to the project manager for offering positions
- Assign census workers to enumeration areas and reassign as needed
- Assist the project manager with developing training materials and delivering training to census workers
- Provide supervision to call centre workers
- Supervise, motivate, and guide approximately 20 census workers through regular check-ins
- Develop a plan and coordinate census collection for restricted access buildings and collective dwellings
- Have a solid understanding of assigned enumeration areas in Strathcona County and their boundaries
- Collect census information from residents over the phone, ensuring personal information is kept confidential
- Conduct quality assurance checks on the information collected by enumerators
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma with one year related training or experience
- General knowledge of census practices, and familiarity with Strathcona County addressing is an asset
- Previous municipal experience is an asset
- Ability to lead and motivate a team to complete their assigned tasks
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work well with others in a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with judgement and discretion
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities and timelines
Regular hours of work will be daytime on weekdays and on occasion, during peak periods of the project, may include the occasional evening or weekend shift.
Pay Range: $25.28 - $31.59 per hour
