Reporting to the Manager of Urban Forestry, Natural Areas, and Community Stewardship, this position is responsible for leading complex, cross-departmental initiatives including implementation of Saanich’s Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and assisting with implementation of the Urban Forest Strategy and Climate Plan. The Supervisor provides direct supervision of staff in the Community Stewardship Section, and oversight of operations related to community stewardship and environmental education projects and programs. They are responsible for preparation of policies, bylaws, reports, and plans related to conservation, enhancement, and stewardship of biodiversity in the District, project management, and internal and external liaison and advisory functions.

Requirements for the role include: a university degree in ecology, biodiversity, conservation biology or environmental/natural resource management from a recognized university; four years of progressive experience in environmental, biodiversity, natural resource, conservation planning and/or management including one year of supervisory experience in a related field; and eligibility for membership in the province’s College of Applied Biology, Association of Registered Professional Foresters or another relevant professional body.
Candidates will also be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and use of GIS, and have excellent communication, research, writing, presentation, project management, public engagement, and interpersonal skills. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful applicant will work Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) with some evenings and weekends as operationally required.
As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.
