Description
The District of Saanich has been a climate action leader for many years. In 2019 the District declared a climate emergency, shortly followed by the approval of an ambitious and award-winning Climate Plan. The Sustainability Division leads this work and we have spent the last three years actively and collaboratively implementing the Plan and monitoring progress. We now have an exciting opportunity available for a new permanent, full-time Sustainability Project Delivery Manager, who will report to the Manager of Sustainability.  This position will identify, design and lead key projects and programs that deliver on the Climate Plan vision, objectives and targets with a focus on corporate climate action that showcases a municipality “Leading by Example”.

A key objective of this position is to accelerate the District of Saanich’s transition to zero-carbon, 100% renewable operations and climate resiliency.  As the Sustainability Project Delivery Manager, you will identify and make recommendations on innovative approaches to fuel switching, greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions, energy savings, embodied emissions and climate adaption for District operations and purchases – and then successfully lead and/or support the design and implementation of these projects, policies/bylaws and programs. Current examples include the Zero Emission Fleet Strategy, EV charger installs, Climate-Friendly Commuter Program, major facility upgrades and the Corporate Zero Waste Strategy. Depending upon the experience of the successful candidate, community-wide climate action projects/programs could also be included in this position’s workplan.

This is a new position that will cultivate strong partnerships with multiple internal departments and will comprehensively engage and collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and the public. The position will present to Council, hire and manage consultants and project teams, develop and manage budgets, secure grants, and be the District of Saanich BC Hydro Corporate Energy Manager, which includes the delivery of the Strategic Energy Management Plan.  You would be joining an incredible, passionate and highly successful team with access to strong, well-established regional, provincial and national networks.
