Responsible for providing a comprehensive health and environmental program in the community. Using a variety of skills, the Public Health Inspector/Environmental Health Hazards protects individual and community wellness through health promotion activities and enforcement of provincial acts and regulations. Assist in reducing the potential for hazardous environmental problems by researching, analyzing data, reporting and liaising with the department, the community and other professionals.
Helps to reduce the incidence of communicable disease and health hazards, performs technical assessments, provides consultative and educational services, and ensures that community development does not conflict with a healthy environment. The PHI/Environmental Health Hazards identifies hazards in residential, recreational, commercial, social and industrial premises, provides information and consultation to departmental staff and management on human health issues. The PHI/Environmental Health Hazards responds to changing environmental issues to ensure compliance with pertinent legislation.
This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours/week), with an anticipated duration of 9 - 12 months.
EDUCATION
- Certified by the CIPHI (includes 3 month internship program and complete written and oral examination)
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent
- A degree in Environmental Health is an asset, preferably with a focus on applied research and statistical analysis.
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of two years of experience in Public Health inspection methods and procedures.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons.
SKILLS
- Proven skills in investigation, interviewing and the delivery of public health inspection programs.
Salary Range: $ 34.41 - $ 42.70
