We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as the Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, the Director is a leader in supporting the organization’s culture and success through its people-oriented programs, initiatives and services. Your strategic direction will ensure the efficient, professional and coordinated delivery of human resources services by a team of 19 HR staff to a diverse complement of approximately 1000 employees. As Director, you will lead the HR team to successfully implement a full range of strategic and operational HR initiatives and projects. As a valued strategic business partner to the corporation, you will ensure the department continues to provide a high level of customer service and professional expertise. The Director, along with the General Manager, Corporate Services, is responsible for taking the lead on all negotiations for collective agreements.

The ideal candidate will apply their thorough knowledge of HR functions, sound judgment, and solid grasp of financial matters to develop creative talent management strategies that help the City achieve its business goals. The successful candidate will be a high impact leader and ambassador with proven experience leading the HR practice within a complex organization and championing HR initiatives across the organization. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills, combined with your ability to influence, will enable you to build trusted relationships with your team and throughout the organization.


HOURS OF WORK
Eighty (80) hours bi-weekly, Monday – Friday (8:00 – 5:00). There is a requirement of additional and evening hours to meet position expectations. As a member of the City’s Leadership Team you are eligible to receive one Earned Day Off (EDO) per month. 

Requirements
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • A recognized professional human resources designation.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience to include: organizational planning/effectiveness/development, compensation, employment law, labour relations, training & development, health & safety, attraction and retention.
  • Will possess a minimum of five years of experience in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to build relationships and engage with individuals.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to provide staff with vision and motivational direction in obtaining clearly defined goals.
  • Strong business acumen with excellent planning and financial management skills.
  • Fully proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Salary & Benefits

$126,754 – $154,215 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package including a defined benefit pension plan.
