If you're knowledgeable in accounting procedure and love the challenge of prioritizing and staying organized, you'll fit right in as the County's Payroll and Accounting Technician. Job duties include: Tracking, recording, and reporting on grants; maintaining, verifying, and preparing payroll batches; and preparing and submitting remittances to outside agencies. The following minimum qualifications are required: Proficiency in Excel, knowledge of accounting procedures, and a strong adherence to confidentiality.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Asset Records
- Develop an in depth knowledge of the Great Plains Dynamics and Worktech systems.
- Work with the Director to establish all capital asset records.
- Maintain all ongoing asset documentation for review by the Director.
- Prepare journal entries as required.
- Prepare all Worktech capital asset invoice batches including coding and obtaining correct authorization.
- Assist in preparation of year end files and schedules for audit purposes.
- Liaise with Accounts Payable Clerk to ensure issuance of all payments related to capital items.
Grants
- Responsible for recording and tracking all grant funds received
- Completion of all grant compliance reports for review by Director
- Preparation of year end documentation of grants for audit file
Payroll
- Maintain, verify and prepare Council payroll batches
- Maintain, verify and prepare Wage payroll batches
- Maintain, verify and prepare CasualNolunteer Firefighters and District Chief payroll batches
- Co-ordinate documentation for Wage, CasualNolunteer Firefighters and District Chief positions including commencement and termination
- Prepare and submit within required time periods all remittances for applicable employee categories to outside agencies
- Co-ordinate all documentation for seasonal employees including advertising, orientation, commencement and termination
- Develop an in depth knowledge of the AV ANTI payroll system
- Prepare T 4A slips and T 4A Summary for all applicable categories of persons
- Act as the primary replacement for the HR Payroll Coordinator during absences and at year end peak periods
General
- Assist the public in a pleasant and efficient manner.
- Maintain a current Procedure Manual.
- Assist in any other related duties or special projects as assigned by the Director.
- Participate and assist in a positive and professional manner as a team member in all operations of Yellowhead County.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Skills
- High school diploma
- Knowledge of accounting procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to all matters pertaining to Yellowhead County
- Must be bondable
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Defensive driving

The salary range is currently $59,135 - $74,869 per year. Yellowhead County offers a competitive benefit plan.
