Responsible to ensure the construction of residential, commercial and industrial structures and facilities are in conformance with established building, fire, health, safety, construction and other standards. The Deputy Chief Building Official will develop and administer building policies, procedures and programs, prepare budget, advise consulting engineers, architects, developers, contractors and the public by interpreting by-laws, codes and regulations, develop and recommend standards for the construction and alteration of City owned buildings. This position will assist in the development and implementation of requirements associated with applicable by-laws and codes, develop and recommend standards for the construction and alteration of City owned buildings and act as a consultant to the Board of Variance on by-law and code matters relating to building construction.
Thorough knowledge of building code enforcement, field inspection standards and practices is required along with the ability to review and interpret complex technical reports, provide guidance and leadership, and communicate effectively with all levels is a must. Registration with APEGBC or AIBC is required for this position.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering from a recognized university plus ten years of progressively responsible related experience preferably in a municipal environment or possess an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
