Reporting to the Manager – Compensation, Benefits and HRIS, the HR Associate is an entry level Human Resources role that plays a critical role in the creation and maintenance of all employee transactions throughout his/her career with the City. Duties include but are not limited to documenting all employee transactions (i.e. new hire, transfers, terminations etc.) within the HRIS system; acting as employees benefits ambassador addressing claims queries/issues with the city’s benefit providers, preparing processing and administering benefit documentation; administering, researching, preparing and processing OMERS pension and retirement information; annually analyzing eligible other-than-continuous-fulltime (OTCFT) employees for OMERS eligibility, communicate to those eligible and complete any resulting enrollments; responding to employee/retiree requests and inquiries, conduct pre-retirement meetings, then process within the HRIS; prepare then forward information letters and related correspondence in regards to Pregnancy/Parental Leave of Absence (PPLOA), Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA) and terminations; prepare and process death benefit information forms and related correspondence, meeting with beneficiaries/executors to discuss deceased employee or retiree benefits and options; maintain all benefit enrollments, changes and termination within benefits database; prepare demographic benefit reports via benefits database; maintain Work Perks enrollments and terminations, providing user ID and Passwords to eligible employees; providing administrative support to the recruitment function such as candidate testing and reference checks; other duties as assigned.
College Diploma along with Human Resources Certification or Bachelor Degree in Human Resources. A minimum of two (2) years relevant HR office experience; or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. CHRP designation preferred.
Strong MS Office skills, specifically Word and Excel
Demonstrated experience using HRIS applications, experience with PeopleSoft an asset.
Strong organizational, administrative, reasoning, research and analytical skills along with strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions.
Excellent interpersonal along with strong communication skills both written and oral.
