The primary duties and responsibilities of the Civil Engineering Technologist will be to:
- Collect data, compile and prepare reports of the Town’s road network, water mains, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, fire hydrants, manholes, valves, curb stops and other assets as part of the Town’s on-going Asset Management System and Plan
- Perform traffic counts at various locations throughout the Town and enter the data
- Provide assistance to complete designs, and generate construction drawings
- Perform various survey functions to obtain necessary data
- Prepare technical specifications and tender packages on small capital projects as assigned
- Assist in developing budgets and/or 5-Year capital budgets, including compiling unit prices by reviewing previous bid results or contacting suppliers, contractors, or engineers
- Work on in-house Capital Works Projects as required
- Civil Engineering Technologist (CET), preferably with 3-5 years experience
- General knowledge in Civil Engineering as it relates to municipal engineering and long-term asset management planning
- General knowledge of AutoCAD drafting
- Knowledge of survey & survey instruments; GPS, Total Station, Theodolite, Traffic Count Data Logger, and Electrical Density Gauge (EDG) etc.
- Must have a diverse technical knowledge
- Able to work independently, to interface with co-workers and have good interpersonal & communication skills
- Able to undertake support roles in design, contract preparation, and construction inspection
- Familiarity with computers and software, Microsoft Office Suit (MS word, excel, power point, access)
- Knowledge of GIS preferred.
- Must have Class 5 Valid Driver’s License
