Starting November 1st, people across Canada can apply for a $500 award to support a Wildfire Community Preparedness event in their community.
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day (Prep Day) is a national campaign that encourages people to take action to increase their homes, neighborhoods, and communities' resilience to wildland fire. In 2027, Prep Day will be observed on Saturday, May 1; however, award recipients may host events anytime between May and October.

The $500 Prep Day award helps communities fund activities that raise awareness of wildland fire risk in their area and build local preparedness. FireSmartTM Canada in collaboration with Co-Operators, the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) and provincial and territorial wildland fire agencies, support and fund this annual event.
In 2026, FireSmart Canada provided 366 communities with Wildfire Community Preparedness Day awards.
Prep Day is a call to action for all Canadians to work together and create wildland fire resilient communities.
