Nova Scotia and Vermont have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on Transmission Collaboration and Regional Grid Integration, strengthening ties between the two jurisdictions and creating new opportunities to work together on clean energy development and regional energy security.
The three-year agreement establishes a framework for collaboration on offshore wind energy, electricity transmission planning and regional grid integration. It will support knowledge sharing and explore opportunities to deliver Nova Scotia's world-class offshore wind resources to meet growing demand for reliable, affordable and clean electricity in New England.
"Nova Scotia has one of the best offshore wind resources in the world, and partnerships like this help us turn that advantage into economic opportunity," said Premier Tim Houston. "This agreement with Vermont is another important step as we build connections with energy partners, advance Wind West and position Nova Scotia to become a clean energy superpower. By working together, we can create good jobs, attract investment, strengthen energy security and help meet growing energy needs with clean, reliable power."
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to exploring transmission solutions and regulatory co-operation needed to integrate renewable energy into the regional grid. It also supports engagement with regional partners in eastern Canada and across the northeastern U.S. as Nova Scotia continues to develop its offshore wind industry and clean energy export opportunities.
Nova Scotia's offshore wind sector represents one of the largest economic opportunities in generations. As the province moves toward its first offshore wind projects, partnerships with potential energy customers help provide confidence to investors, support transmission planning and strengthen Nova Scotia's position as an emerging leader in renewable energy development.
Quotes:
"As a small state, we can't generate affordable, clean and reliable energy alone, which is why regional partnerships are critical to reaching our goals. This agreement lets us explore how to put those strengths together in a way that keeps costs down for ratepayers, strengthens reliability across New England, and builds on the long friendship between our jurisdictions. I want to thank Premier Houston and his team for their partnership."
