 This posting is for one temporary full-time position for up to 11 months in duration

Be an integral part of the planning, managing and policing of Edmonton's Hospitality Destinations and late night economy. Use your extensive and creative project management experience and knowledge of community development to build on the vibrancy, safety and sustainability of Edmonton's hospitality destinations, with a focus on Whyte Avenue. The Street-as-a-Venue Coordinator will strategically act as a corporate change agent in the facilitation, coordination, planning and implementation of all aspects of the City of Edmonton services and programs on Whyte Avenue in collaboration with community and key partners.

Areas of responsibility will include:

• Work as a team member of Responsible Hospitality Edmonton to inform, support, participate in projects, and provide services and programs, and make policy recommendations in the development and implementation of best practices relative to licensed premises in a Sociable City
• Assess late night service/program needs of Whyte Avenue year-round in relationship to demographics, seasonal, celebrations, festivals and ongoing scheduled service requirements
• Facilitate and/or initiate information exchange, collaboration and responsiveness between the various City Departments, program providers, members of the community and industry relative to initiatives on Whyte Avenue and other hospitality destinations
• Support City, community and or industry efforts to improve the safety and/or cleanliness of Whyte Ave through efforts such as graffiti removal, litter management, side walk and street cleaning and develop long term strategies
• Explore long and short term alternatives in pedestrian and multi-use sidewalk management, late night transportation, parking, patron responsibility and similar initiatives
• Support the successful planning and implementation of Whyte Avenue's events including public art, buskers, music venues, celebrations as well as advanced preparation for spontaneous events
• Explore and support the development and diversification of the late night economy in ways that increase liveability and embrace community quality of life standards
• Develop or support campaigns and educational programs to build safe and sociable hospitality destinations
• Assist in the development and implementation of needs assessment, program statements and services
• Develop capital and operating budget packages to accomplish service/program plan on a yearly basis
• Facilitate and or initiate the communication and publicity of the corporate effort by consolidating and complementing existing publicity and marketing efforts of other groups on Whyte Avenue
• Meet and respond regularly to queries from media, Councillors, City staff, and the public
• Represent and the City of Edmonton on various committee, events and presentations

Requirements

 

• Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Social Work, or a related university degree
• Minimum of (7) seven years professional experience including design and implementation of public process, collaborative community initiatives, organizational development, community development and mobilization, project management, and administration of contracts and agreements
• A demonstrated ability to work independently in research, consulting, issue identification, collaborative governance, leadership, and problem solving
• Experience in fund development and facility, identifying resources, and mobilizing community support for the sustainability of projects
• Demonstrated experience in media relations, organizing events and public speaking
• Highly competent facilitation, communication (both written and oral), and organizational skills
• Self starter, and able to work under very limited supervision with a multi stakeholder group
• Flexible in terms of schedule, approach and attitudes as the stakeholder group includes everyone living or working in the Hospitality Destinations and the values and beliefs of those who venture there

Note: An Enhanced Security Clearance that is satisfactory to the department is a condition of employment, it must be provided before your start date and it is the financial responsibility of the successful candidate. Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance

Salary & Benefits

 

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. Some evenings and weekends

Salary Range: 21M, Grade: 029, $38.993 - $49.006 (Hourly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton
