The Community Services Department requires a Supervisor in the Community & Recreation Facilities Branch who will be responsible for overseeing the operations of Major Events and Operations at Commonwealth Stadium. This position is accountable for facility and site operations including: staff supervision, emergency preparedness, Occupational Health and Safety program, energy management, strategic planning and business plans, environmental initiatives, safety and security plans and financial management. Staff in this position contribute to and provide facility specific expertise in capital development plans and budgets and facility specific master plans. This position also acts as a resident supervisor for specific recreation facilities.
There is also the responsibility to serve in a co-ordination role for major activities at recreational facilities such as international sporting events, major concerts, international, national and regional swim competitions, and major public events, as well as specific facility operations, planning and scheduling of local leagues, clubs and users in various recreation facilities.
Responsibilities include:
• Lead and supervise operations staff by providing timely decisions, direction, advice and support as well as evaluating and adjusting workloads, resources and priorities to achieve the vision and mission of the branch
• Provide strategic management through collaboration in the planning process and implementation of facility based business plans which also includes establishment of performance indicators and targets to meet section objectives and preparation and implementation of long range financial plans
• Manage and plan outcomes of the business area through coordination and development of effective business processes between business units and preparing, monitoring and reporting on expenditures of the annual operating budget
• Ensure safe and secure facilities for customers, volunteers and staff through development of emergency preparedness plans for the facility and leading the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety 8 element program
• Maintain and develop positive working relationships and achievable goals with our partners and community groups through development and monitoring of service agreements and contracts and facilitation of partnerships with local, national and international recreation organizations to increase opportunities

• Undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration, Business, Horticulture, Sciences or related discipline
• A minimum of 5 years supervisory/management experience in recreation, facility management or other related discipline
• Experience and skills in the following areas: staff management, facility operations, financial management, labour relations, project management, facilitation, problem solving and strategic planning, and special event management
• Competencies in business related computer programs (SAP, Peoplesoft, Geo Media, SLIM, Taleo, Google apps) would be an asset
• An original Police Information Check or Certified Criminal Record Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position. The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Services or a local RCMP detachment. Please note, this may take up to 3 weeks to process
• Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business auto insurance
Salary Range: 91M, Salary Grade: ML2, $79,135.00 - $113,049.00 (Annually)
Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work for management / professional positions may vary and be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program
