Level I Community Peace Officer – Commercial Vehicle Compliance Officer

(3 Positions)

RCMP Support/Bylaw Services Department

 

 

Position Type/ Hours:

These are permanent full-time positions working forty (40) hours per week within the Bylaw Services Branch of the RCMP Support/Bylaw Services Department.

 

Position Description:

Under the supervision of the Sergeant, ensure compliance among large Commercial Vehicles and Vehicles for Hire with Municipal Bylaws, Provincial and Federal Acts and Regulations; enforce all Municipal Bylaws, Provincial and Federal Acts commensurate with their appointments; answer inquiries; conduct inspections, initiate investigations and finalize complaints; issue violation tickets; lay charges; process summons and subpoenas; maintain files; compile records; submit reports; liaise with other Government Agencies; and represent the Municipality in a Court of Law.

 

Requirements

Qualifications: • High School Diploma plus Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified, combined with seven (7) years of related vehicle inspection or enforcement experience is required;
OR
• Certificate in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement or a related field, combined with five (5) years of related commercial vehicle inspection or enforcement experience is required,
OR
• Journeyman Certificate as an Automotive Service Technician or Heavy Equipment Technician, combined with three (3) years related vehicle inspection or enforcement experience is required.

Preferred:
• Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified.
• Weights & Dimensions Course.
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods training acquired through an accredited institution.
• Radar & Laser Operator.

You will posses the following:
• Community Peace Officer I (CPO 1) appointment through the Alberta Solicitor General must be obtained within one (1) year from the hire date into this position. As part of obtaining CPO I status the employee must successfully pass a Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) Test.
• Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain an R.C.M.P. Enhanced Reliability Security clearance.
• Exceptional customer service skills required.
• Enter query and maintain data on Report Exec Information Management System and using Microsoft Office Applications.
• Proven communication, interpersonal, problem solving, investigative, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, relevant Bylaws/Acts/Legislation.
• Valid First Aid certificate to be obtained prior to commencing employment and maintained while employed.
• Must be medically and physically able to perform all of the duties on an ongoing basis.
• Immunization strongly recommended.
• Valid Class Five (5) Alberta Driver's License (clear driving record an asset).
 

Salary & Benefits

Pay Level: PL 16

Salary Range: $40.20 (Probationary Rate)
$44.15 – $47.30 (Permanent Rates)
