Position Type/ Hours: This is a permanent full-time position working a twelve (12) hour rotating shift within the Water Treatment Branch.
Position Description: Under general supervision, operate Water and other treatment facilities to ensure compliance with Federal, Provincial Regulations and Canadian Drinking Water Standards. Troubleshoot and perform operational maintenance on process equipment.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
• A two (2) year post secondary diploma in Environmental Science (or related course) or two (2) years previous operations experience in a water treatment facility or three (3) years industrial process experience involving water mandatory.
• Water Treatment Level 3 or 4 License is required.
• A Power Engineer Certificate will be considered an asset.
• Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in water treatment.
• Supplemental tickets in Wastewater treatment, distribution and collection could be an asset.
• Valid class five (5) Alberta driver’s license (clear driving record an asset).
• Valid First Aid Certificate (within six (6) months of employment).
• Must have experience working in a computerized environment.
• Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, read blueprints, and interpret plans and specifications.
• Must be able to work around high voltage equipment, in hazardous, and all weather conditions.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
• Must be medically and physically able to perform all of the duties of this position on an ongoing basis. Will be required to work in confined spaces and handle hazardous chemicals.
• May be exposed or work in unsanitary conditions. Immunizations strongly recommended.
Pay Level: % of PL 18
Salary Range: (Probationary rates) (Permanent rates)
$45.76 per hour – 90% Level 3 $47.38 per hour – 90% Level 3
$50.84 per hour – 100% - Level 4 $52.64 per hour – 100% - Level 4
** Percentages are based on Utility Treatment Technician Rate at Pay Level 18. Rate has been adjusted to reflect market conditions **
Where the opportunity for overtime exists, all overtime is paid at two (2) times the regular hourly rate.
Under the synergy wage premium program water, wastewater, collections, and distribution operators who obtain Level 4 licenses in their primary discipline area will be paid a synergy wage premium. The wage premium will be $2.00 per hour for each additional valid operator certifications in the other 3 disciplines up to an additional $24.00 per hour.
