Saanich Commonwealth Place is seeking caring and reliable Childminders to support preschool childminding services within the Recreation Division. These positions are ideal for individuals who enjoy working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children and are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for children and families.
Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Supervisor, the Childminder is responsible for supervising children in a safe and organized manner, preparing the room and equipment before the start of the program, monitoring participant entrance, keeping accurate attendance records, welcoming participants, and providing accurate and enthusiastic feedback to patrons. The role also ensures program supplies and equipment are safely stored after each session, maintains ongoing communication with the supervisor, arranges for substitutes when required, and supports a safe and clean work environment.
Requirements include completion of Grade 10, three months' experience working with preschool-aged children, and Emergency First Aid and CPR C Certification. The successful candidates will demonstrate accuracy in keeping attendance, patience, support and understanding with children, effective communication skills, adaptability, relationship-building skills, problem-solving ability, and a strong customer service focus. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than 6 months. Renewal of PIC-VS is required as per policy.
The successful candidates will work Thursday shifts, including 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., as well as on-call shifts as operationally required.
