If you are excited by transportation operations, active transportation, practical project delivery, customer service excellence and technical design using Autodesk Civil 3D, this is a hands-on role where you will help turn concepts into constructed infrastructure that residents use every day.
We are seeking candidates for two positions on our Transportation and Development Services team:
Planning and Operations
Responsible for supporting transportation operations, traffic safety, and development review activities throughout the District. This includes investigating service requests and transportation concerns, collecting and analyzing traffic and collision data, conducting field reviews, and evaluating operational and safety issues. The position develops and recommends transportation improvements and prepares traffic control and transportation engineering designs using Civil 3D. This role supports the delivery of operational improvement programs including traffic calming, speed management, neighbourhood bikeways, street lighting, and the installation and modification of traffic control devices, such as signage, pavement markings, and traffic signals. The position also reviews development applications and Traffic Impact Assessments, providing technical transportation engineering expertise to align with Saanich’s transportation planning initiatives.
Active Transportation Group (Design and Construction)
Responsible for the planning, design, delivery, and inspection of active transportation and accessibility projects that improve safety, connectivity, and mobility throughout the District. This includes preparing conceptual and detailed engineering designs using Autodesk Civil 3D, coordinating and inspecting construction activities, managing project documentation, and delivering projects from concept through completion. Typical projects include pedestrian and accessibility improvements, crosswalk upgrades, cycling facilities, neighbourhood bikeways, and bus stop improvements. The role also includes stakeholder management and public engagement, working closely with residents, businesses, community groups, contractors, utilities, consultants, and internal departments to support project development and successful project implementation.
We are especially interested in candidates who bring:
- Working knowledge of transportation design principles, traffic control devices and road safety practices including the relevant design guidelines and manuals these are contained within.
- A demonstrated interest in active transportation planning and design
- Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and Bluebeam (transportation design modelling experience is a preferred asset)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, contractors and the public.
Requirements include: a two-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; three months of related experience; eligible for registration with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; conversant with computer-based engineering applications including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam Revu; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
