The District of Saanich is the largest municipality on Vancouver Island, serving a diverse community through reliable, responsive public services. The Engineering Department's Public Works - Solid Waste Services team helps keep Saanich clean, safe, and well maintained throughout the year. The District is seeking team-oriented Labourers to support the District's seasonal Leaf Collection Program. These temporary full-time positions are well suited to dependable individuals who enjoy active, outdoor work and take pride in contributing to a safe and efficient public service.

Working with a crew, you will perform a range of manual tasks in support of leaf collection and related public-works operations. Duties include assisting with loading and unloading materials, swamping on trucks, shovelling, raking, sorting and piling materials, and maintaining clean, orderly work areas. You will also assist truck drivers and equipment operators as a signal person, perform flagging and traffic-control duties adjacent to work sites, and follow all applicable municipal, WorkSafeBC, and personal protective equipment requirements.

Requirements

Requirements include Grade 10 or equivalent; one month of previous related experience and on-the-job training; a valid Traffic Control Certificate; and a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's Licence. Annual renewal of a Driver's Abstract is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidates must have sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy manual work, including work outdoors in all weather conditions. These temporary positions are for three months, from October 28, 2026 to January 15, 2027, and work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. Salary & Benefits
