Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief, Employee Safety & Training, is responsible for the overall administration of safety and training programs within the Fire Division. This includes being responsible for the planning, organizing, and directing of safety programs and the review, monitoring, and delivery of training required by employees.
he skills and knowledge required to perform the duties of this position are normally obtained through secondary schooling, accreditation through a national fire training academy or technical school graduation and\or six to ten years of progressively responsible emergency service\management experience. The person must be a competent instructor and have the ability to develop and deliver programs, which is gained through a minimum of five years of experience in a similar role.
Specific certifications that are required for this position include:
- NFPA 1001 Level 2 (Fire Fighter)
- NFPA 1002 (Apparatus Driver/Operator)
- NFPA 1021 Level 3 (Fire Officer)
- NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Level 1
- NFPA 1041 Level 2 (Fire Service Instructor)
- Emergency Medical Technician – Ambulance/Primary Care Paramedic certification
- ICS, 100,200, 300 and 400
- NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer;
- BTLS/Pediatric BTLS Instructor;
- The ability to certify in Ice Rescue, Confined Space Rescue and/or Dangerous Goods Operations.
The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $145,230 - $170,859 annually as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a $450.00 monthly housing allowance and a defined benefit pension plan.
