As the Budgets & Planning Accountant/Financial Analyst, you’ll provide financial analysis, budgeting support, forecasting expertise, and strategic insights that help leaders make informed decisions and achieve organizational objectives.

How You’ll Support the Team
In this role, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of relevant Corporate Financial Information Systems (CFIS) and computer aided planning processes. You will also have the following accountabilities:
- Participate in the financial overview process including providing information with regards to long range projects and forecasts as well as summary documentation.
- Provide training, expertise and technical assistance to staff in the Corporation on the CFIS and budget procedures.
- Maintain Operating and Capital Budget system including development of reports as requested.
- Ensure approved staff complement is accurate within the Budget system.
- Participate in the reviews of departmental and outside board budgets for accuracy and ensure all documents are compiled and prepared for review by the Executive Management Team and City Council.
- Assist in the preparation of corporate reports, summary budget documents and update the budget section of the CTB website.
- Participate in the review of the general corporate revenue and expenditure budgets. Review projections, conduct research, complete comparisons to the previous year, and perform scenario analysis.
- Coordinate and participate in the review of departmental variance reporting including drafting corporate reports.
- Collaborate with staff in the Corporation to identify/verify appropriate funding sources for in-year capital appropriations.
- Provide input into the technical aspects of budget policies.
- Assign and upload capital and operating information into CFIS. Ensure dollars related to grant program funding and debentures are allocated to the proper projects.
- Maintain structure and groupings of cost centers and elements in CFIS.
- Prepare reports and analysis with respect to capital processes and year end working papers.
- Liaise with the external auditors, corporate personnel, and outside boards and agencies.

What You’ll Bring to the Team
Here’s what will help you succeed as a Budgets & Planning Accountant/Financial Analyst:
- Degree in business administration, commerce, or a related discipline; and a Professional accounting designation with a minimum three years’ of public sector experience in accounting with a focus on budgets; or
- Degree in business administration, commerce, or a related discipline, with a minimum eight years’ public sector experience in accounting with a focus on budgets; or
- Diploma in business administration or a related discipline together with a minimum of 10 years’ public sector experience in accounting with a focus on budgets.
