The District of Saanich is the largest municipality in beautiful Greater Victoria, blending both the urban and rural environment and home to approximately 124,000 citizens. Employing more than 1,500 members, our greatest asset is a high performing workforce. We are recruiting for a Survey Services Manager to join our team.

The Survey Services Section is responsible for providing surveying services across the Corporation for advancing engineering designs, capital construction, supporting the maintenance of asset data in the GIS and legal survey services for internal stakeholders.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Water Resources, the Survey Services Manager will lead team daily operations; manage staff recruitment, development, performance and occupational health and safety compliance; manage operating and capital budgets; provide expert advice on legal surveying and geomatics matters; oversee survey instrumentation and software management; and ensure compliance with professional and regulatory requirements. The role also supports corporate asset management goals, participates in the GIS Community of practice and works closely with GIS teams across the corporation.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be commissioned as a British Columbia Land Surveyor (BCLS) and a practicing member of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors, with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geomatics Engineering or a related field, plus eight (8) years of progressive related experience in legal and engineering surveys. In addition to a strong technical foundation, the Manager should possess strong leadership skills, be an effective communicator, able to build partnership, and motivated to seek out opportunities to continuously improve the business area scope, tools, processes, and practices.

Familiarity with GIS systems is an asset. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC is considered an asset.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered where applicable, including a Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology (or a relevant discipline) from a recognized institution; a valid Land Surveying commission from another Canadian jurisdiction with the ability to challenge and obtain BCLS status post recruitment.

The successful applicant will work Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (35 hours per week). As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.

Salary & Benefits
