About the Role
The distribution and collection operations supervisor oversees the daily operations of Aquatera’s distribution and collection (D/C) systems. This role ensures that employees are trained, supported, and equipped to perform their work safely and efficiently while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The distribution and collection operations supervisor plays a key role in fostering a strong safety culture, coordinating operational activities, supporting infrastructure projects, and contributing to budget management and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and the public across all D/C operations
- Foster a proactive safety culture through hazard identification, inspections, and corrective actions
- Supervise, coach, and support D/C staff, including recruitment, performance management, and development
- Plan and manage scheduling, including shifts, overtime, and vacation coverage
- Coordinate maintenance activities, prioritize work orders, and optimize crew efficiency
- Assist with budget preparation, cost monitoring, and expenditure control
- Provide technical input and support for capital upgrade and infrastructure projects
- Ensure water sampling and regulatory compliance in accordance with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas requirements
- Support emergency response activities, including after-hours field assistance when required
- Maintain accurate records and update activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Coordinate maintenance programs including hydrant and valve exercising, sewer cleaning, CCTV inspections, and infrastructure maintenance
- Collaborate with internal teams to support asset management and system improvements
- Participate in the supervisor on-call rotation and assume the operations manager’s duties as required
Qualifications and Required Skills
- Minimum Level II water distribution and Level II wastewater collection certification
- Strong knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection system operations and maintenance
- Proven leadership experience or formal leadership training. Leadership experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset
- Ability to interpret plans, blueprints, and maps
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Highly organized with strong time management and attention to detail
- Adaptable and resilient in a dynamic operational environment
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or technologically adept with a proven ability to learn and master new software applications quickly
