Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor, Halifax Transit, Industrial Electrician will be accountable to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical equipment on Halifax Transit’s fleet.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works according to an assigned schedule.
- Responds to given priorities by determining own work schedule daily.
- Accomplishes work objectives by determining own work schedule, coordinating with support services and assigning short-term tasks to others if necessary.
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
- Perform testing on EV components and devices, including but not limited to; insulation testing (megger testing), thermal imagery, torque tests, and performance evaluations
- Performs service tasks, identifies technical problems, and makes analysis through remote or on-site activity in any service categories (including installation and commissioning, maintenance, repairs, engineering and consulting, advanced services, extensions, upgrades and retrofits, end of life services, replacements, etc.)
- Perform service work according to agreed workflows and in accordance with standard processes and safety guidelines while delivering excellent customer service to satisfy customers
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems and other related devices
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
- May install, maintain and calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Physical Effort
Intermediate periods of moderate physical effort such as sustained keyboarding, sitting in one place, standing, walking, working in constrained positions or confined and/or awkward physical positions for up to 50% of the time. Regular periods of climbing ladders or lifting medium weight objects. Physical activities typically require a variety of muscle movements with frequent requirement for speed and coordination
Physical Environment
Occasional exposure to mild unpleasant or disagreeable conditions such as negligible conditions at dust, dirt, noxious odors, noise etc. Remote possibility of risk of accident or health hazards
Sensory Attention
Need to concentrate on a variety of sensory inputs for intermediate durations at a time requiring close attention several times daily. If sensory activities are interrupted, time is required to backtrack to resume activities, involving lost time. The need for detailed or precise work is moderate.
Mental Stress
Working environment with occasional exposure to one or more mental pressures that would not be noticeably disruptive to the work, nor would the unpleasant reaction be too strong or persistent. For example, pressure or deadlines, quotas or need for accuracy, unpleasant public or client contacts, probable concern about unpleasant situations, repetitious work, and or some disruption of personal life because of work, work schedules or need to travel.

Position 1: 78640723: 7:00am – 3:30pm; Monday – Friday
Position 2: 78640724: 3:30pm – 11:30 pm; Sunday – Thursday.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Must be a licensed Industrial Electrician with a certificate of qualification in an Industrial Electrician trade issued under the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship and Trades Qualification Act and Red Seal endorsement.
- Two (2) years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial charging equipment and infrastructure.
- Must have strong troubleshooting and preventative maintenance skills for industrial power systems.
- Experience working with heavy duty vehicles is considered a strong asset
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of all applicable codes and demonstrated ability to apply the codes.
- Demonstrated ability to read and follow electrical drawings and schematics.
- Must be competent in all aspects of electrical equipment to ensure safe installation/repairs.
- Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License

SALARY: $40.24 per hour (plus shift premium) as per the Collective Agreement between the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 508 and Halifax Regional Municipality. Shift premium of $2.00 per hour for shifts after 3:30pm
